Greetings and salutations!
So 2011 is coming to a close and I have been reflecting on my overall health this year and making plans for 2012. One thing I am sure of, time will keep rolling along whether I have a plan or not. For 2012 I have decided to take a little break from my primary workout program, P90X, and try a new program just introduced by Beachbody called Les Mills PUMP.
As you may know, I was in terrible shape by 2009 after suffering from the ravages of two heart attacks in my early 40s and spending years listening to doctors about how the next one could be the one that does me in. As a result of basically zero physical activity, I got a stent implant, my weight climbed, I was put on blood pressure medications and my health steadily declined for almost a decade. I had to make a change in my lifestyle so I started using Beachbody workouts to get back into shape and take control of my overall health and fitness. I don’t have time to go to the gym every day so the in home workout programs are a great way for me, and so many others, to get and stay healthy with our busy schedules. I was 234 pounds, had high blood pressure, poor eating habits, and was generally on a downhill slope headed for type 2 Diabetes when I made my change.
I stared using a workout called Power 90 (P90) and lost 18 pounds by doing that 90 day program. Then I moved to the Power 90 Master Series workouts as a continuation of the P90 program and lost another 8 pounds. I could have lost more but my diet frankly sucked and I wasn’t really paying attention to it. Then, I felt I was ready for the big leagues and decided to give P90X a try. By the time I was finished with my first round of P90X, I had lose a total of 41 pounds and was taken off my blood pressure medications and was taken off the risk for diabetes! I went from 234 pounds on 5 Jan 90 to 193 pounds in Oct 90. I also won $1,000 in the Sept 09 Beachbody transformation contest. Since then, I have maintained a weight of about 195 pounds using P90X as my primary workout program doing 4 to 6 days a week.
I made a couple of attempts to do another Beachbody program called Insanity, but I have bad knees and shoulders and have only been able to get through about 4 weeks before I have to stop the program due to pain in my knees and feet. Insanity may well be the most intense workout ever put on disc for home use. Fortunately, I can continue to keep my body in pretty good shape and I have enough programs to mix things up every month or so to keep my body guessing and stay in pretty good shape.
I was due an annual physical around Aug 11 and at the same time was assigned a new doctor in my “government ran” health care system. As a disabled veteran, I still have to see doctors in the TriCare system for military and veterans. I made the visit in Aug and had some blood work done prior to my appointment. When I showed up for my appointment, my doctor said he had found some issues with my blood and I would have to start chemotherapy IMMEDIATELY!
Needless to say, this freaked me out but being a good airman, I followed orders and started that day on a medication called Hydroxiurea. It is a chemotherapy medication you take orally twice a day and it is designed to kill cells in your body, the good ones and the bad ones. If I refused treatment, I would lose my insurance benefits so I followed the program to the letter.
To make a long story short, the drug wreaked havoc on my system. I experienced most of the side effects including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight gain, and overall feeling of sickness. I was supposed to do 90 days of chemotherapy but within a couple of weeks I was crapping blood and going to the bathroom 6 or 7 times a day. Ironically, I gained 13 pounds while on the medication. My blood count got so low that I was barely able to function but had to wait an extra week for the doctor to get back from a conference he attended before he reviewed my blood work and determined I didn’t need to be on the stuff in the first place! The Lab had just made a mistake with my test and he misread the results! He took me off the medication immediately once he saw photos I emailed him of the clotting you could visibly see on my skin all over my body.
Finally off the medication in Sept 2011, it took me about 7 or 8 weeks to recover from the experience. By then I had gone from 195 to about 208 pounds. I was very weak and still feel weaker than when I started the treatment. I tried to get back to my workout by doing a round of P90X “Lean” starting in Oct and finishing in Jan 2012 but was only able to do about 4 to 6 days a week throughout the program due to no energy.
Since I am older than most people using P90X, I guess my body doesn’t recover as quickly as someone in their 20s or 30s. This is natural and since I abused my body most of my life, I am lucky to be able to recover at all in my humble opinion. I’m pretty sure I would be in much worse shape if I hadn’t been working out and eating better over the last couple of years. So, you never know what might happen to cause you to need good health to get through a tough challenge.
At least I have been drinking my Shakeology every day and ate mostly clean through the holidays, except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve. I managed to lose about 3 or 4 pounds since Oct. Now I am ready to move forward and cut my losses, so I will be doing the new workout starting Jan 2 with a Facebook support group of about 288 people and counting!
If you have been to a gym lately, there is a very popular gym program produced Les Mills International, called Les Mills Body Pump. Well, Beachbody has partnered with Less Mills International to create an in-home version of the Body Pump called Les Mills PUMP. It looks like a great program for me to get back on track with my fitness and I am so stoked about getting started. I ordered my program on 22 Dec and hope to get it by 29 Dec.
I plan to do the program as it is designed and not add workouts or exercise not scheduled in the program, at least for this first round. I want to see how effective the program will be doing it as designed. From my past experience with Beachbody workouts, I know they are designed well and I will get great results if I just FOLLOW the program.
I also plan to blog about my experience with the program so others can see my progress and the challenges I face going through it. I will post at least once a week with my weigh-in on Sunday mornings. This will help me keep on track and stay accountable to myself and to you if you follow this blog.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a very happy and prosperous new year! Remember, you only get one body in this life. Do whatever you can to take care of it. Check back if you want to follow me through my program.
To your health and fitness,
Jim

Hi everyone!
I just ran across this ebook and website you should take a look at. I think you'll find it really interesting.
It basically exposes all the myths and bad practices that cause the majority of mlmers to fail in their business.
It completely goes against the grain of anything you've ever been told about network marketing before, but it all makes perfect sense.
If you want a copy, just click on the picture of the book and get your copy right away. It is great information, whether you are thinking about starting your very own direct marketing business or you are a seasoned veteran, I believe you will get something you can use from it.
To your health and financial fitness,
Jim
P.S. - Oh, and it's free too.

Keep fighting the good fight!
Howdy everyone!
Today is another day 1 of my fitness journey. Over the past several months, I have been doing the Power 90 boot camp about 4 or 5 days a week. I have gotten through a little health issue where the treatment really beat my body down and it took about 5 weeks to recover from it.
My energy levels were next to zero and I was in a good amount of pain and pretty sick through it all. Even the 30 minute workouts in P90 were extremely difficult but now I feel much better and am ready to get back into my routine of working out 6 days a week using P90X as my primary workout program. I will also be drinking Chocolate Shakeology since it is so healthy and taste great. I know it is the best nutrition I can get into my body so I am thankful for it.
Yesterday, I weighed in at 206 pounds even. At my lowest level, I was at 193 pounds so I have gained 13 pounds during the treatment and on the medication my doctor prescribed. I can feel the difference in my low energy levels not being able to work out consistently. I also know how I will feel once I get back into the routine of exercising 6 days a week and eating better.
As with any new workout program, it will take me at least 3 weeks to adjust to the program. It is well known that habits are formed in 21 days. That includes bad habits as well as good ones. So, I know I will have to be really focused on pushing play every day for the first 3 weeks to get into the routine and re-establish that good habit of working out. Since I drink Shakeology every day, that is already a solid healthy habit for me and will help ensure I am getting healthy nutrition into my body. Plus, it keeps my chocolate cravings in check since I am a chocoholic. :)
I set my schedule up in the Team Beachbody WOWY Super Gym and will be doing the "lean" version of the P90X program this round. My goal is to lose body fat and try to retain as much lean muscle as possible. Today, 17 Oct 11 is my Day 1 scheduled workout. The 90-day program will take me to 14 Jan 2012. Now, I don't have to worry about making a New Year's resulution to lose weight and get back in shape like so many do every year in January only to fall back into old routines and not see their goals reached. By 1 January, I will be 3/4 of the way through my round and will be in a lot better shape than I am today so I won't need to set a new resolution.
I am excited about getting started, dreading how sore I will be this week, LOL, but looking forward to improving my overall health, fitness and quality of life! I know for a fact that you can change your life for the better, all you have to do is decide you want it, commit to some sort of daily exercise program, and if you follow through with it, you will succed in reaching your goals. I will be blogging my weekly progress on Sundays so feel free to follow this blog to see how I do.
One thing I can promise, I won't be perfect, but I will improve as I move forward! To your continued health and fitness!

The Team Beachbody Coach Business
Since becoming a Team Beachbody Coach, a lot of my friends and people I meet are curious about what I do as a coach and why I decided to become one. After answering this question hundreds of times, I decided I would write a short note to explain the basic premise of the Beachbody Coaching opportunity and why I became a coach.
Many are surprised to find that I actually stumbled into the business opportunity and wasn’t “recruited” by one of the coaches in the network. I was doing a few of the workout programs and was getting better results from home than I had in years of going to the gym. I was also using some of the supplements, including the Core Nutrition Pack, the P90X recovery formula and the protein bars. I also started drinking Shakeology every day and I hate paying retail if I can get it for less. Since I was on “home direct” for my core nutrition pack and the Shakeology, I get a 25% discount on those products as a coach. Being on “home direct” also gets me free shipping so I am saving about $50-60 dollars a month with the discount and the free shipping. To me, that was a no-brainer. I also knew I was going to be buying other workout programs in the future, so I wanted to get them at the discounted price. Over the past couple of years, I have purchased a number of the Beachbody workout programs as well as tried most of their supplements and there is no telling how much money being a coach has saved me.
In hind sight, just randomly signing up as a “coach” could have been disastrous because I was assigned to a random coach in the network. Fortunately, I got assigned to a group of active leaders in the coaching network and they have all been great helping me build my business without being a pain in the butt. I do my coaching part-time and have grown my business more slowly than a lot of people on my team or in the overall network. The great thing about it is that you can do it at your own pace. There are many who just sign up as a coach just to get the discount like I did and there are others who have signed up as a coach and really worked their business to the point where they have retired from their careers and are doing the coaching business full-time. A number have already grown their businesses to becoming millionaires. Others do it full time and make a good living, and others do it part-time and make a good part-time income.
Every Thursday, I get a check directly from the company deposited into my savings account. Since I don’t rely on that income for my livelihood, it is like a bonus every week. I have used that additional income to pay off a new car and a truck in 8 months and 14 months respectively. My wife and I have also used that money to help fund our vacations every May, which reduced our overall expenses significantly. All for just a few hours a week telling others what I am doing and how they can do the same. I don’t even try to sell anything. I am not a salesman. I am a facility manager by profession. The coaching is a way for me to help other people realize their potential and get themselves healthy and fit just like I have done.
Since becoming a part of the coaching network and Beachbody community, I have been fortunate to meet a lot of great people from all over the country. These people are like me in that they want to help others and love the lifestyle of being a Beachbody coach. Everyone I have met has been very gracious and helped me anyway they can. I am not even in their group, yet they still reach out to help. It is an awesome company with great people, and I am very happy I decided to join. Here are some of the most common questions I have been asked about the business.
What is the Beachbody Business? The company Beachbody was founded by the Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon in Los Angeles and their company was growing and successful. They specialize in in-home workout programs like Power 90, Slim in 6, P90X, TurboFire, Insanity and many other programs to help people improve their health and fitness from the privacy of their homes. Along the way, they noticed people were helping others on the community message boards and recommending the products to others. They realized that this organic network was a great way to share the products and wanted to give back to those who were having success and sharing. Carl and Jon decided to create a unique network marketing system to support the customers and community members. In 2007, they invited a number of customers to become founding coaches in the network. Since these customers were already achieving success with the programs and sharing with others, it was easy to start getting paid to do what they already were doing. Thus, the Team Beachbody Coaching opportunity was created.
What do the coaches do? We do several things. First, we all use the products ourselves to get healthy and stay healthy. We also recommend products we have used and we provide support to others who are doing the programs and also provide an opportunity for those who are interested in changing their lives financially with the business opportunity. We focus on helping others to build their physical and financial future for the better of the community. As a result, the company rewards us with compensation.
How do coaches get paid? There are a number of ways to earn income with the Beachbody coach’s compensation plan. But basically we earn a 25% commission on any Beachbody product we recommend and someone purchases from our coach websites. We also earn bonuses for the effort of our teams as we grow our business. As you move up in rank in the network, there are a number of other ways to make money.
Do I have to be an expert or a certified fitness professional? No, you don’t have to be an expert or certified. You don’t have to be a registered dietitian, fitness expert, personal coach, or anything of the sort. The only requirement is to be willing to reach out and help people live a better lifestyle through Beachbody workout programs, supplements and nutrition. You can also lead them into the business opportunity if they are interested in getting paid to help others.
So, what do I have to do to become a Beachbody Coach? First, you need to find a group of active coaches in the network so you get on a good team. You also want to make sure you join up with a success partner who will be supportive, available, and able to help you get the training necessary to build your business to the level you want to achieve. The team I am fortunate enough to be on is called Team Genesis, a very successful team with several leaders who have already achieved great wealth and who reach out to train everyone in their down line on how to be successful and achieve any level in the business you are willing to work for. Team Genesis is one of the largest and most successful teams in the organization and continues to grow rapidly. Our team provides a balance of corporate training as well as team training from the most successful and experienced coaches in the company. By following the simple steps taught by our leaders, you can achieve any level of success you are willing to work for. Remember, this is a real business where you will only get out of it what you put into it.
Before you sign up with our team, we need to have a phone interview to see if you are a good fit with the team. If you are interested, and would like to schedule a call, contact me at jimwyatt556@gmail.com.
To your health and fitness,
Jim

Steve Edwards 8-Week Transition Diet
The 8-Week Transition Diet
By Steve Edwards
The 6-Week Transition Diet was one of the first things I ever wrote for Beachbody®, way back in 2001. It's remained popular ever since; in fact, in 2005, I gave it a facelift and increased it from 6 weeks to 8. Five years on, it's time to dust it off and spruce it up for the modern age. We've found over the years that this transitional eating plan is one of the easiest ways to change your eating habits for the better.
It's often said that no one diet works for every individual. While this is true, you may have noticed that all Beachbody eating plans target a similar goal: eating more natural whole foods and less junk. That's because there are no secrets to healthy eating. There are strategies that can lead to various performance benefits, but 99 percent of diet is cutting junk and eating real food. With this in mind, our Beachbody nutrition guides use various strategies, all designed to lead you to the same place.
While those nutrition guides tend to be detailed and filled with recipes, the 8-Week Transition Diet is for those of you who are less detail oriented. Conceptually based diets like this can be easier to follow, because they focus on providing you with a short list of "no-nos," leaving you with a fairly wide array of foods that you are allowed to eat. Of course, that isn't the approach you want to have for long-term success. Any diet, no matter how easy it seems, will take some willpower on your part if you want to see results. Your long-range goal should be to eat well, period. If you can accomplish this, your physical transformation will become a natural extension of your lifestyle, instead of something you need to pursue.
As healthy eating becomes a habit, you will find the other intangibles (weight loss, increased energy, etc.) falling into place. For many people, the easiest way to accomplish the healthy-eating habit is to make a gradual transition from food choices that hinder human performance to ones that help you perform better. By making this transition gradually, you'll find that it isn't as difficult as you expected.
Week 1
No junk. Eliminate junk food from your diet. That's it, just junk. Other than this, you can eat whatever and whenever you like. Now, how hard can that be? Guess this depends on what I mean by "junk." But all I'm concerned with this week is the obvious stuff like potato chips, candy, ice cream, cake, etc. You may be stricter if you'd like, but for Week 1, don't be too hard on yourself. For many of you, this step alone will reap huge benefits.
Cheat Days: 2
Since no one's perfect, you get 2 days to cheat. That's right, 2 days where you can eat anything you want! A trick on these days (and, yes, this means there will be more) is to listen to your body. At first, it'll probably tell you it wants whatever you've been denying it. However, over time, it'll start to crave nutrients you're deficient in. Learn to read your body's subtleties. If you're craving ice cream, you may be short on essential fatty acids. If you crave a hamburger, your diet may lack protein. This way, you can make better food substitutions. It's a way of getting in tune with yourself that will benefit you for your entire lifetime.
Weekly focus: Water. Not swimming in it, though that's good too, but staying hydrated with it. You should drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water per day. Diet sodas and such are no substitute, because they contain a passel of ingredients that live right at the bottom of the junk heap. Drinking a glass of water when you feel hunger pangs coming on will not only keep you hydrated, but will help stave off your hunger to some degree.
As for other drinks, juices and sugary sodas also (obviously) fall into the junk category. And alcohol should be kept to a minimum. We tend to forget (purposely or not) that alcohol has calories. A lot of them: 7 calories per gram. Mixers can be even worse—not only can they add calories, but sugary calories influence the way alcohol reacts with your body. When you do drink, red wine is the alcohol of choice, with natural beer running second.
Week 2
Each week's rules are cumulative, so the "no junk" rule from Week 1 will apply until the end, as will each subsequent week's rule. Remember that this is a learning and conditioning process. It's like you're in school and the subject is your own body.
Eat small, eat often. Eat four to six small meals a day, and don't eat anything for about 3 hours before you go to sleep. Following these rules will keep your blood sugar levels more static and your energy level will stay consistent. Try to keep each snack or meal balanced. Keep a 30 percent protein, 40 percent carbohydrate, and 30 percent fat scale in mind, though you don't need to worry too much about it. Just realize that you need a bit from each macronutrient group. Eat based on what you'll be doing for the next few hours (if you're working out, eat a little more; sitting at a desk, eat a little less). The 3-hours-before-bed rule is important, especially for fats and carbohydrates. By allowing time for all the carbs you eat to get into your bloodstream, your body will sleep in fat-burning mode, rather than in calorie-storing mode. This is important because undigested carbs in your stomach at night are stored as adipose tissue (fat).
Cheat Days: 2
Weekly focus: Carbs are not the enemy. Your body needs them, just like it needs proteins and fats. The trick is to choose the right carbs. As a society, we eat too much refined sugar. Complex carbs, like whole-grain breads, whole-grain rice, sweet potatoes, and legumes are outstanding foods. Even fruits, which have simple carbohydrates wrapped in fiber, are very good for you and hard to overconsume. While you don't want a diet based on nothing but carbs, making the right carb choices will maximize your body's potential. Try to avoid white rice and flours. Read labels, and try to avoid ones that use the word "enriched," because this means these products have been stripped of their natural nutrients, overprocessed, and then fortified with a few random nutrients.
Week 3
Eat some colorful, low-density food at every meal. These are foods that take up a lot of space without a lot of calories. Veggies are the most obvious example. You can eat a salad bowl overflowing with lettuce and veggies and you most likely won't exceed 100 calories. By eating low-density foods like veggies and fruits, you'll keep your portions under control naturally, because they have very few calories for their size. Conversely, high-density foods, like chocolate and butter, are loaded with calories in even the smallest amounts. So beware of salad dressings and other things you add to salads and veggies. Only add enough for flavor; don't fill up on them. When it comes to live foods, the richer the colors, the fresher the products tend to be. Try to eat a variety of colors in your diet. This simple and somewhat random act will help ensure that you're covering your bases, nutrient-wise.
Cheat Days: 1
Weekly focus: Protein at every meal. This becomes even more important as you eat more low-density food, because protein tends to be high-density. Many veggies have a lot of protein, but the quantity you must consume starts to become prohibitive. Try to get some protein—meat, dairy products, nuts, seeds, or legumes—each time you eat, especially when you're working out hard, because you need to repair broken-down muscle tissue. Frequency of protein consumption is even more vital for women, who aren't able to digest as much protein at one time as men are. It's almost impossible to get all your necessary protein at one or two meals, so try to get 10 to 20 grams of protein each time you eat. Reading labels is a simple way to learn how to estimate your protein intake, but if you eat natural foods, most of which don't have labels, you can look at online nutritional information guides to determine the amount of protein each serving contains.
Week 4
Cook at home. One of the best ways to control your eating is to prepare all your meals yourself. Eliminate all fast food (which should have been gone in Week 1) and most other restaurant food. You may still eat food from certain restaurants where you can be sure of the ingredients (most will be savvy enough to make a point of how healthy their food is). But avoid all fast food chains, even ones that claim to be "healthy." Restaurants need their food to taste good, so they'll often use compromised ingredients, even when they list low numbers on fats and/or calories. Fast food can contain many hidden evils in addition to calories. For example, next time you see one of those nutrition charts, check the sodium levels; most fast foods use ridiculously high amounts of salt. Avoiding fast food alone will often bring your body closer to homeostasis (its desired state of balance). This can be hard for many of us because we now have to plan our meals and prepare ahead of time, but try and treat it like vocational school—you don't learn a new "job" without a little retraining.
Cheat Days: 1
Weekly focus: Fat is essential. Remember that fat is a vital part of your diet, not just something that makes you fat. What is not vital is a lot of saturated or trans fats. Trans fats are mainly those that are artificial, and hopefully they've been eliminated from your diet by this point, since they're generally only found in junk. Saturated fats are found in dairy products and meats, and you don't need too much. For cooking, try to use olive oil when possible. Also, the addition of either flaxseed or hempseed can have a pronounced effect on your health. These seeds are loaded with essential fatty acids (omegas 3 and 6). Be careful about that amount of fat. It is dense and has 9 calories per gram, as opposed to 4 for both carbs and protein. A tablespoon goes a long way!
Week 5
Reduce starchy carbohydrates. Starches include rice, bread, potatoes, corn, beans, and other legumes. While many of these are in no way bad foods, most people tend to consume far too many of them. So what you want to do this week is cut way down on them, if not cutting them out completely. Then add them back in when your body feels like it needs energy, which it will at some point if you're exercising (and why wouldn't you be?). But don't add a huge plate or bowl of pasta; instead, add a small single serving. Starches are great energy food, but if you eat too many, they turn the tables and make you sluggish!
Cheat Days: 1
Weekly focus: Sugar is only beneficial after a hard workout. Your body doesn't need processed sugar. But if you really enjoy it and can't avoid letting some sneak into your daily diet, the 1-hour period after you exercise is the best time to indulge. During this window, your blood sugar is low, because you've used it up to finish your workout (assuming you pushed yourself), and sugar during this time will help you recover faster because it speeds into your system and initiates the recovery process. Adding a little protein, but not too much, will enhance your recovery even further. The best ratio is 1 part protein to 4 parts carbs, as in Results and Recovery Formula®. You should avoid fats during this immediate post-workout period, because they slow absorption—a good thing most of the time, just not during and immediately after working out.
Week 6
If man makes it, don't eat it. This is likely to be the hardest week of your diet. You want to eat only whole foods and eliminate all processed foods, even good ones, for the week. This includes breads, most salad dressings, all cereal, luncheon meats, cheese, dried fruits, anything with preservatives, and alcoholic beverages. What you can eat are whole foods such as fruit, raw or steamed vegetables, meat (sans any type of sauce), natural whole-grain rice, poached eggs, etc. Since your eating habits have been slowly changing, this shouldn't be that big a shock to your system, but keeping in focus that you only have to do this for 7 days will make it easier. (Although each week's rules are cumulative in the plan, Week 6 is more of a "cleanse" or "reset" week where you avoid all processed food; after Week 6, you can go back to the occasional processed food, but chances are you'll take what you learned this week and tend to make healthier, smarter choices.)
Cheat Days: 1
The "cheat day" mentality isn't a bad one. Rewards like decadent desserts, a night at the buffet, or drinking with friends are good for you as long as you keep them in perspective. These are rewards for a life well lived and you should be able to feel good about doing them. Plus, there's some method to this madness as well, in that you still tend to crave nutrients you lack. So if you're cutting down on the calories to lose weight, allowing yourself a cheat day will give your body a chance to take in what it needs to avoid being malnourished.
Weekly focus: Nuts make great snacks. A handful of raw almonds or cashews is a quick and easy snack that goes a long way. Don't be put off by the high fat count of nuts, because this means it takes fewer of them to satiate you. Nuts are loaded with important phytonutrients, as well as good fats, proteins, and fiber.
Week 7
Be yourself. No rules—just try and eat as healthily as you can and do it by feel. Trusting yourself might seem like a lot of responsibility, but by now you'll be up to it. Learning to eat by feeling what your body needs is an important step in your transformation. Consider the way you've been eating over the last 6 weeks, but don't worry about what you should and shouldn't do. Just fuel yourself. The point is to take a mental break. Relax and allow yourself to eat in a way that feels normal. You may be surprised to find yourself craving something healthy instead of a candy bar or soda. You'll be better at listening to your body because it'll tell you what it needs to eat, as opposed to what you're used to eating. Your body should feel somewhat transformed. Does it?
"Reward for a Life Well Lived" Days: 1
Weekly focus: If you're so hungry at night that you can't sleep, try a protein shake (like Beachbody's Whey Protein Powder) before bed. When it's real, and not habitual, hunger means you lack nutrients your body needs to repair itself as you sleep. You want nothing but protein powder and water. No carbs or superfluous calories. But protein at night, especially whey, will help the body repair damaged tissue and enhance the natural growth-hormone spike that you get while you sleep.
Week 8
Eat a perfect diet. Now it's time for a real challenge—are you ready? The perfect diet is strictly individual, as there's no one diet that suits everybody. So who better to choose the perfect diet for you than you? Our bodies are all different, and the key to your own perfect diet is learning about how your body reacts to different foods under different circumstances. Your journey over the last 7 weeks should have brought you to a new understanding of how food affects your body, both for good and for bad. Now it's up to you to put it to the test. See how well you can eat for a week. In fact, see how well you can eat for the rest of your life. Live and enjoy.
Reward Days: 1, of course!
Weekly Focus: Don't bonk. Bonking is a state where your body runs out of stored blood sugar for energy. If you feel like your workouts are going backward instead of forward, this is a likely culprit. Use your energy level as your gauge. As soon as it starts to drop, start adding carbs back into your diet until you feel energized all day long. When you feel energized during your workouts and not sluggish throughout the rest of the day, you'll know you've found the right balance between carbs and other nutrients. Also, remember that as your body puts on more muscle, you will need to eat more. Muscle weighs much more than fat so as you gain muscle and lose fat, you will shrink at the same weight. You will also require more calories in order to maintain your muscle. So when you're working out hard, don't be afraid to eat more carbs than you do otherwise.
My Supplements
Greetings!
In 2009, I was at my all time heaviest at 234 pounds and was eating poorly as well as not exercising at all. I could barely walk up a flight of stairs without sitting down to catch my breath. To make matters worse, I was on two separate blood pressure medications, one to reduce my BP, and the other to regulate my heart rate. My doctor had told me that I was pre-diabetic and that I would soon have to go on diabetes medication along with the BP meds. The two heart attacks I suffered at 40 and 42 had taken it's toll on my lifestyle and overall health and I knew I was on that slippery slope to a shortened life. That was the turning point for me. I guess everyone has to go through some self-evaluation before they get to a place that they decide they have to make some sort of change in their lives. Until then, they will continue to decline in their health and lifestyle to a point when they are hospitalized and/or reach their final demise. We are all going in that direction I guess. The question you need to ask yourself is, "Do I want to just sit down and give up, or do I want to live my life to its fullest?"
I chose the latter and have not looked back since. I started doing a program called Power 90, or P90, produced by a company called Beachbody in Jan 09 and have literally changed my life from the privacy of my spare bedroom. That sounds so simple and too easy, but that is what I have done for the past 2 years to regain my health, fitness and a better lifestyle. It was always, and continues to be, challenging every day but I am on my fourth round of P90X, the extreme version of P90 and have never felt better.
As I have progressed in my journey to better health and fitness, I have come to realize that exercise is only part of the equation if you want to be really healthy. Your nutrition is just as important and without proper nutrition, you can never maximize your exercise results and will spend a lot more time getting into shape. You can see that every day as you watch people go into and come out of your local gym. A lot of them have spent years going to the gym and working out with either weight machines, stair masters, free weights, tread mills, and so forth only to look about the same as they did the day they started. They are doing part of what they need to do, but they don't have the whole picture clearly in focus.
There are three legs to the health and fitness stool. Exercise being one, nutrition another, and a community of support have been shown to have the best impact on helping people change their lifestyles and live a better quality of life. This is why I like Beachbody so much. I live a busy life and don't have that much time to be spending on exercise. Most people are in that same boat these days. But, Beachbody has developed a comprehensive program that addresses all three legs of the health stool and you can do it all from your home.
Beachbody produces world class in-home fitness programs and provides you with a wide range of nutrition guidance as well as a on-line community of people just like you who are fighting the obesity epidemic by transforming their bodies and their health together. It is a wonderful experience being around others who support you on your journey to better health and fitness. They know what you are going through and are there to support you and encourage you to continue on your journey. Before you know it, your life will be changed and you will wonder why you ever lived the way you did in the past. Then you almost feel a sense of obligation to "pay it forward" and help your family and friends improve their lives. As we do this one body at a time, eventually, we will reverse the trend of obesity in the US and beyond.
I wanted to post about my supplementation and why I take supplements. It has become an integral part of my nutrition plan and I think you almost have to supplement your nutrition because of what Big Food has done to our food supply over the past 30+ years. I recently read an article about the nutrition in an apple of all things, and according to the article, if you eat a medium apple today, you are only getting 25% of the nutrition you would get by eating an apple 50 years ago! That astonished me when I read it. I eat apples all the time and thought I was getting good nutrition from it. However, the soil is no longer as fertile as it was in the past and seeds have been altered through genetics so the nutritional value of foods we eat have continued to decrease over time.
No longer can we get the nutrition our bodies need without eating 4 times as many calories resulting in the unused calories being stored as fat. Have you noticed that 2/3 of the adult population in the US are overweight or clinically obese according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)? People are not getting the right level of nutrition in the fast, processed foods our society is eating these days. The big food industry, like Monsanto, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. are feeding us low nutrition and high fat food, all for the sake of cheap convenience the American population has embraced over the past few decades. This has resulted in our country being the fattest nation in the world, and one of the most unhealthy.
This is why you almost have to supplement your nutrition if you want to get the right nutrition without all the calories and fat you don't need. If you are like me, you have a very busy life and it is hard to eat "clean" all the time. If you could eat the perfect diet every day at every meal, you wouldn't need to supplement your nutrition. Unfortunately, very few of us are able to do that consistently over time so our waistlines continue to increase and our overall health continues to decline. That is, unless we make a commitment to fight back. Since I know I am not always able to eat properly, I want to make sure I get enough nutrition to provide my body what it needs to function at the best level possible.
The first supplement I use is Shakeology. I use it because over the years I have researched and studied many of the ingredients are consolidated into what I think is a delicious meal replacement drink. It comes in two flavors, Chocolate and Greenberry. Since I am a chocoholic, I love the chocolate. It gets rid of my cravings and I love the taste and I know I am getting some of the best food nature has to offer into my body every day. I drink it first thing in the morning when my body is most ready to absorb nutrients after a 10-12 hour fast overnight from dinner to the morning. I get a burst of sustained energy from about 6 am in the morning until around 9 am when I feed myself again with a more traditional breakfast that consist of a protein, assorted fruits and berrys and some sort of fat such as walnuts or flax seed.
Next, I take a good quality multi-vitamin that is natural based. The brand I use is called Nutrivit and is a all around great vitamin to ensure I am getting at least 100% of my daily recommended allowance of essential vitamins and minerals.
Along with the multi-vitamin and Shakeology I also take a Calcium and Omega 3 supplement, which rounds out my daily supplementation. I know by taking these supplements every day, my body is able to function at optimal levels for my age and current physical condition. As you probably already know, calcium is great for protecting your bones, joints and different organs in your body. The Omega 3 fish oils help your cardiovascular system work at higher levels. Most people suffer from a deficiency of omega 3's and usually get too many omega 6s in the standard American diet. The Omega 3 supplement helps me keep the balance of Omega 6 and Omega 3 in place.
If you decide to supplement with Omega 3s, make sure you look carefully at the pill. If it is dark, it is probably old or not good quality so don't buy it. Good, clean omega 3 will seem light and bright when you look at the pills. Those are a good indication of the purity of the oils used to make the supplement. As with anything else, it may cost a little more to get a better quality supplement. I recommend you don't short change your supplements by buying cheap ones. Some of them will do more harm than good so do your research to find the best you can afford. The investment will result in better overall health and a longer, better quality of life.
I used to get my supplements from GNC and I paid for what I wanted. For example, I took the GNC Men's Sports Formula multi-vitamin for years. I think the cost was $49.95 for a month supply that I took daily. Once I found Beachbody, I researched their products and found I could get what is called their "Core Nutrition Pack", which includes the multi, Calcium and Omega 3 supplements together. The multi-vitamin is better in my opinion because of the natural ingredients used to manufacture the vitamin vs the synthetic way GNC produced the Men's Health Formula. Also, I get all three supplements as a Team Beachbody Coach for about the same price as the GNC multi-vitamin alone. For me it was a "no-brainer." I have been taking these supplements for almost 2 years and have had no adverse reaction to anything I have used from Beachbody.
During this round of P90X, I decided to give the Beachbody creatine supplement a try for 8 weeks and cycle off of it in the last 4 weeks of my program. So far, I have gained strength and am able to do my workouts with more intensity, but I feel bloated a lot since I have been taking it. I have heard that is normal when taking creatine, so I will have to see over time what kind of gains I get and how lean I get once I cycle off the supplement.
And finally, I use Beachbody's Recovery Formula as my recovery drink after my workouts. It taste like orange sherbet ice cream and has the 4 to 1 ratio of carbs to protein recommended for optimal recovery and muscle repair after doing intense workouts. It helps me reduce the soreness in my muscles after doing my strength workouts and I can tell the difference if I don't have the recovery drink the next day.
So far, these supplements and especially Shakeology have helped me lose 41 pounds and keep it off for almost 2 years now. I have seen many different opinions posted over the Internet by so called "nutrition experts" who claim supplements are worthless. On the other hand, I have done my own research and study about the need for supplementation including sources like the Center's for Disease Control (CDC), FDA, numerous books by Registered Dietitians and PhDs and overall believe the prevailing wind is that you are better off taking them. Personally, I know how I feel when I take them on a regular basis, and how different I feel when I don't take them of a while. I have decided I feel better and live a better quality of life by taking them. It may not be for everyone so I guess each individual will have to do the research and decide for themselves if they will be better off with or without supplements.
I say make sure you are eating as clean as you can, eat a balanced diet of lean protein, complex carbs, and essential fatty acids and supplement if you feel the need. This is the path to long term health and a better quality of life.

My Health and Fitness Journey and My Why
In Jan 2009, I made a life decision to improve my health and fitness because my health had declined since retiring from the military and I was on the verge of becoming a type 2 diabetic. I was warned by my family doctor that I had to exercise and eat better or be put on diabetes medication. This was a turning point for me.
I decided to order a in-home workout program called P90X, but during my research and subsequent failure of the “fit test” I decided to start with the Power 90 (P90) boot camp workout. I set a goal in Jan 2009 to lose 30 pounds. Fortunately, I was able to lose 41 pounds from Jan – Oct 2009 using 3 Beachbody programs including Power 90, Power 90 Master Series, and finally P90X. I was able to keep that weight off since Oct 09 until just recently when I let my priorities go haywire. I fell off my program of exercise and nutrition and have declined in my health and gained back 8 pounds of body fat! Yikes!
During this time, I decided to become a Beachbody Coach. My reason at the time was to be able to get the 25% discount on the products offered by the company. I had no real interest in building the business; I just wanted to save money. However, I told my brother about signing up as a coach and he was excited and said he had thought about becoming a coach also, so he decided to let me sponsor him as a member of my team. Once he signed up, I signed my wife up and became what we call an Emerald Coach in the business plan.
Becoming an Emerald coach is the first step to being successful in the Coaching business. The reason is because Beachbody has a unique marketing business model where they give Coaches paying customers once you qualify as an Emerald coach. That is, the company gives you new paying customers every week. Whenever these customers purchase anything in the future from the company, you get a commission. It’s just that simple. I have about 385 customers at this time. The commissions I get from these customers have allowed me to pay off both of my 2010 vehicles, one in 10 months and the other in 14 months. Both vehicles were financed with no money down from the dealers. We have also paid for several vacations in the past 2 years that cost us very little. As an example, my wife and I went on a SCUBA diving trip in the Bahamas in May 2011 and only had to pay for the diving. Everything else was paid with profits we made from our Beachbody business. Even better, two of the trips we have taken are almost totally tax deductable so my total tax liability is greatly reduced. That’s a secret the wealthy have been hiding from the rest of us!
Don’t get me wrong, I have built my business up to what is called a Diamond level business. I get additional bonuses from what the coaches on my team produce. I average anywhere from $400 to $1200 dollars per month doing my business part-time. Not bad for a $39.95 initial investment. That may not seem like much, but it really comes in handy and gives me the freedom to buy things I want, when I want them. I don’t really need much, but it’s good to know I have the extra money if I need it. I do, however, work my business and treat it like a business, not a hobby. Too many people start a Beachbody coaching business and wait around for something to happen. The problem with that strategy is that when you are President and CEO of your own business, if you do nothing, you make nothing. It’s the same as if you invested $500 thousand dollars into a franchise and never showed up for the training or work. You will quickly be out of business and a half-million poorer if you don’t take action. You get out of your Beachbody Coaching business exactly what you put into it.
Fortunately, I’m in an established career and make a fair sum of money, so money doesn’t need to be my primary focus for my business. I want to help others be successful and help them lose weight and get fit and healthy. If they want to make some extra money, I can help them do that also. One of the main reasons I joined the military was to serve others. Being a Beachbody Coach is a natural extension of that desire to serve. I am also competitive by nature and want to achieve what others have done in the business. However, lately I have found myself trying to “sell” our products and the business opportunity. In my effort to achieve “success” in the business, I have lost track of what is really important to me.
My own health and fitness MUST come first. Then second, I want to help others lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. Then, if they want to find out about the business opportunity and learn how to make some extra money, great. If not, that is great too. Not everyone can understand how, or is willing to do the work necessary to build personal wealth. The Coaching opportunity might not be what they want to do. Fortunately, there is still unlimited opportunity in our society for industrious people to make extra money.
I will say one thing though, whatever you do, make sure you are working for yourself instead of someone else. Working for others even part time is building their wealth on the back of your labor. Jim Rohn said it is better to work harder on yourself than you do on your job. This is the way to build a solid financial future, by working for you. But it will take commitment and effort on your part, or nothing will happen. If you’re not willing to work as hard for yourself as you do on your job, then you will probably waste your time and money. Nothing worth having will come without effort. So, whatever you decide to do, make sure you are willing to commit to it and stick with it for the long term. Facebook or Microsoft opportunities only come around rarely. I wouldn’t expect that kind of fortune to fall in your lap, though it is possible.
I am making a new commitment to myself starting today. I will recommit myself to improving my health and overall fitness by following a program I already know will work for me. I will start a new round of P90 and redo each program I completed in the past over the next 12 months. I will learn all I can about proper nutrition and be more disciplined about what I eat on a daily basis. I will enter the Beachbody $100,000 Challenge and work to transform my body and have a chance to win all the cash! I will log my workouts in the WOWY Super Gym for a chance to win $500 each day I workout.
And finally, I will help anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness. If you are interested in joining me on my journey, maybe we can go on it together. Just send me a message and we can start whenever you are ready. Let’s get started.

My 12 Week Workout and Nutrition Plan
Hi everyone! Hope you are doing your part to help reverse and end the trend of obesity in the US! This past Monday I started a new 12-week program for my personal health and fitness and have made several changes to reduce my body fat and improve my overall health.
First, I have to admit that I slacked off my program for about 10 weeks starting with our dive vacation to the Bahamas in late May. That is where my plan and routine went awry. Just to show you a good example of how easy it is to get off your program, no matter how long you have been exercising and eating better, I want to use myself as an example of what NOT to do.
We had our vacation all set up and I took my workouts with me to stay on track. However, once we got to the resort, I quickly fell off my program. Here is why. Since I was scheduling 2 or 3 dives per day, I rationalized that I really didn’t need to do my workouts because I would be burning an average of 900-1100 calories per dive. Therefore, I would be burning about 2000-3000 extra calories per day diving so why workout? Sounds pretty good, huh? Then, since I was burning all those calories, I decided I could eat more, and add a little junk to keep my energy levels up so I could power through those dives, including diving with Sharks (I have pics on my Facebook page if you want to see them.) So this is how my week went. Throw in a few beers and drinks every day and I was completely off program.
OK, it’s just a week, right? I have been good for over a year and been sticking with my plan and getting good results and still had a few weeks before the Beachbody Summit to slim down and be at my peak when I showed up at the conference. Life has a way of changing your circumstances without warning. Once I got back from vacation, I found myself in the middle of a family emergency that resulted in a lot of travel to hospitals, lack of sleep, eating fast food, and got getting any exercise for almost 4 weeks going to the Summit. The result of those bad choices was a weight gain from 195 before leaving for vacation up to 207.4 pounds in about 8 weeks! Yikes. It was just a bunch of circumstances, and my own rationalization that ended up packing on the pounds in just a short period of time. I managed to wipe out about 10 months of effort in just a matter of weeks by not sticking to my exercise routine and nutrition plan. It is just that simple.
To make matters worse, my energy levels went down, I started feeling sluggish again, my stress levels are up, I looked terrible at Summit with all my Beachbody friends and I am just disappointed in myself for my lack of discipline. And, I only have myself to blame. I am not going to beat myself up too much over it because in the end, I know what I need to do to get myself back on track and I already have all the tools I need to get out of the mess I have gotten myself into.
I have a number of Beachbody workout programs I have successfully used to get in shape and live a better lifestyle. I’m not a Gym Rat so the at home workout programs fit my lifestyle better. I guess they are not for everyone, but millions of people around the country and world are literally changing their lives with Beachbody workout programs. My personal preference are Tony Horton’s workouts. I have several of his workouts, but I also have Insanity, Turbo Fire, Slim in 6, Turbo Jam, Hip Hop Abs and other programs I can use in the privacy of my home. With my busy schedule, they are a great way to keep myself in shape and improve my lifestyle.
I don’t have to fight traffic home, grab my gym bag and go back out into traffic to get to the gym and then fight other people to use the machines and all that is included in that environment. I get home, change my clothes, go into my spare bedroom, put in my workout disc and press play. Then it is a matter of me “doing my best and forgetting the rest” as Tony Horton would say. I just do the best I can on any given day. I may not feel like doing the workout, but I find that once I push play, I get pumped up and start kicking it into high gear and pushing myself. I don’t spend any time waiting for some machine to open up or hanging out BSing. I just follow the workout on the TV and move through it at a good pace and level of intensity. Before I know it, I am soaked with sweat and have blown through a hour workout and can get in the shower, and enjoy the rest of my evening.
Doing workouts from home don’t require any more discipline than schlepping to a gym every day. It is just more convenient to most people. I also like the idea of the Team Beachbody community where thousands of people are logging on and helping each other stay motivated and accountable. I have made friends with people all over the country who are trying to get and stay health and fit using Beachbody workouts. Celebrities, professional sports figures, and even Michelle Obama and her staff use Beachbody programs to get, and stay fit. How cool is that?
So this round I am doing a hybrid program to get myself back on track over the next 12 weeks. I will be doing the Power 90 boot camp for the first 4 weeks for phase 1, then I will do 4 weeks of the P90 Master Series videos for phase 2 and finally I will finish this round with P90X Phase 3 of the Classic version. This should have me right back on track with my functional strength, fat loss, and stamina improvement. This is where I need to be to feel better and know I am on the right path.
My goal is to lose 15 pounds this round and I know from past experience this is easily doable. I also want to reduce my body fat percentage to 12-15 percent. This is more challenging than the weight and diet becomes a important factor to achieving the fat loss.
I am going to use Michi’s Ladder and a balanced approach to lose the weight and fat over time. My macro-nutrients will be 50% Protein, 30% Carbs and 20% fat. This ratio seems to work best for me personally. The standard guideline is 30% protein, 40% carbs, and 30% fats if you are interested. This should be where you start and then tweak your ratios to find what works best for you. Remember, everyone is different but the above ratio covers about 80% of the people to get results. Next, I will try to adjust my calories up or down to find the zone that will help me keep my energy up and reduce body fat. Ironically, sometimes you have to eat more to lose weight. My starting calorie target is 2600 calories per day. I will only make minor changes in my intake about every 2 weeks or so.
Finally, my nutrition is centered on Shakeology. Why? Because in all my research, Shakeology is hands down the most nutritious meal replacement you can get. I have been drinking a glass of Shakeology every day for nearly a year now and I know how it makes me feel. Plus, there is nowhere in the world that you can get more than 70 super food ingredients in a single serving. At only 140 calories, it is literally “The Healthiest Meal of the Day”. You can click HERE to read all about Shakeology. I am completely satisfied with the Chocolate. It satisfies my chocolate cravings, gives me an instant energy boost that lasts all morning and it has helped me stay regular and keep my body cleansed of the junk I put into it from time to time (no one is perfect.)
I will be posting my accountability pictures this weekend so you can see what I look like now and I will do 30-day updates so you can see what kind of results I get this round.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you will follow me and watch my progress over the next 11.5 weeks. Feel free to comment on any of my posts. If you want to contact me for help on your personal health and fitness journey, please email me at jimwyatt556@gmail.com and I will be happy to help you any way I can.

Re-Starting with the $100,000 Beachbody Challenge!!
Hi everyone!
I have been "resting" my body for the past few weeks trying to recover from overtraining and a number of personal issues I have been dealing with over the past two months or so. Unfortunately, I should have stayed on my health program instead of letting life get in the way and distract me from one of the most important aspects of my healthy lifestyle, that is to stay focused and keep moving forward.
The result of my lack of discipline has caused me to go from 194 pounds back up to 207.4 pounds in about 10 weeks of sporadic exercise and slacking off on my nutrition. I can see how sudden events cause high levels of stress and you can lose focus on what is important to your personal health and fitness levels. I am a perfect example of what NOT to do! Eventhough I know better and have learned how to do the right things when it comes to my health, I allowed myself to fall right off the grid and back into a very unhealthy lifestyle.
Now, I don't have the energy I had only a few weeks ago and my my sleep pattern has been disrupted due to issues I really have no control over. This is having a negative impact on my overall health and well-being. I am tired all day long and end up falling asleep on the couch when I know I should be doing my daily workout routine. Then waking up and going to bed and not being able to fall asleep, resulting in less restfull sleep and lower energy levels during the day. This is a viscious cycle once you get in the pattern. I have to break that pattern and force myself to do my workouts and get in bed at a decent time.
To make matters worse, all the events in the past couple of months have resulted in me eating less nutritious and not as clean as I know I should. Instead of sticking to my plan, I made a bad decision for convenience to eat fast food to get me through all the hospital travel, court issues, and lawyer visits. The reality is that I needed to be eating especially clean and exercising consistently to cope better but I was doing the exact opposite. One thing I did manage to stick with was drinking my Shakeology almost every day. At least I was getting some healthy nutrition in spite of my lack of overall discipline. In the end, that probably kept me from gaining even more weight.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have let my body rest as much as possible and didn't do any of my workouts. I wanted to give my body complete rest as much as possible. I also refocused on my nutrition and have come up with a plan to eat better in the future. Now, all I need to do is add my workouts back into my daily routine and I will be back on track. And lastly, I have been getting more restful sleep by going to bed on time and getting up consistently to get my biological clock back on track. I have been averaging about 7 hours per night of restful sleep, which is on target for me personally.
As you know I have been using Beachbody workout programs since January of 2009 when I first "pushed play." The great thing is that I already own the solution to my fitness. I don't have to go out and buy anything else. All I need to do is get back on track and start using the programs again. With that in mind, I have decided to do a hybrid 12 week program that includes three of the workouts I used to lose 41 pounds of fat in 10 months and sustain that for over a year. I already know what to do, and how to do it, so my plan is simple.
Beachbody developes their programs over a 12 week "round" and for the most of their programs they are devided into 3 4-week blocks or phases. So to continue to recover, but get back to my workout routines, I have decided to do the Power 90 (P90) Boot camp for the first 4 weeks, then do the P90 Master Series workouts for the second 4 weeks and then finish this round with P90X Phase III as my closeout phase.
The reason I have decided to do a hybrid is that I already know how to do the programs and how they affect my body. Since I haven't been working out for a while, it will be like starting over so I don't want to risk further injury by over-doing it. Rather, I can use the different programs to quickly ramp up my fitness and get back on track in 12 weeks instead of several 36 months if I redo the programs individually.
I am confident that if I am consistent, and push myself to my personal limit and then just a little more, I will be right back where I need to be. So today is my Day 1 of my 12 week program. I plan to post at least once a week about my progress and let you know how it is going and what challenges I am facing. This will also help me be accountable and keep me on track.
I ask that you follow my blog and watch me to make sure I am posting regularily so I will be accountable. I would appreciate your support by helping me out. Make sure you bust on me if I slack off on my posts. I will post at least once a week and hopefully more if I have time.
Also, if you are interested in trying one of the programs and entering Beachbody's $100,000 challenge, let me know. I can be reached at jimwyatt556@gmail.com I will coach you for FREE and help you help us end the trend of obesity in the US.

Is P90X the RIGHT program for you?
I completed my first round of P90X in Oct 09. By the end of the program I had lost a total of 41 pounds, been taken off two blood pressure medications, and lowered my overall cholesterol and was literally in the best shape of my life. The “X” in P90X stands for extreme. In other words, this is not a beginner program. It can be used by beginners but you really have to be committed to the program and modify the workouts heavily to prevent injury and get through the whole 12 weeks. Even though this program will work for anyone who can gut it out for the whole 90 days, it may not be the best program for those who have never worked out, or haven't worked out for a long period of time.
Our society has become more sedentary and we don’t get the physical activity we did only a few decades ago when we still had industry and agriculture in our country. Now, everything is outsourced to poorer countries that will do the labor for less money leaving people here without much need to be physically active outside of a few games of touch football in the summer, or an occasional swim in the community pool. Other than that, we pretty much sit in front of a computer all day or the TV at night. We are slowly turning to mush and the Centers for Disease Control has been sounding the alarm for many years, but no one is listening.
In Dec 08, I had a doctor’s appointment and my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic and I had a choice. I could either start exercising regularly and eating better, or I could be placed on diabetes medication for the rest of my life. I was already on two blood pressure medications and at the heaviest I'd ever been at 234 pounds. After 2 heart attacks in my early 40s and a stent already in my chest, I knew I had to make a change in my life if I wanted to live. I had to do something to stop and reverse the downward spiral I was in. I felt I had to take responsibility for my own health and fitness. What the doctors were doing, wasn’t working.
I had abused my body for so long, I really didn’t know where to turn.
In the past, I had tried all the gimmicks, like diet pills, fad diets, Ab crunch machines, that electric abdominal cruncher belt, and so forth. I don’t know how much money I wasted over the years trying to find an “easy” fix to my weight and health problem. Some of it worked in the short term, but nothing lasted. All the while, I was staying up late at night watching the infomercials, including P90X while I lay on the couch stuffing my face with potato chips, popcorn and ice cream. I had lost all my strength and energy and was too lazy to do anything about it. I had too many excuses. I had heart attacks, I had bad knees and feet, I was too heavy to do anything strenuous, and on and on. But when my doctor told me I was going to be put on the diabetes medication, I had to do something about it.
I knew I needed to do something drastic. Since I had seen P90X so many times, I decided to do some research on-line to find out more about it. I figured it was just another sales pitch like all the other things I had tried in the past and it cost $120 plus shipping so I didn’t want to waste even more money. As I researched the program, I found the PDF file for the Fit Test you can take to see if you are a good candidate for the program. I downloaded it and promptly failed the test. The web site I was on recommended I NOT buy P90X as my workout program!! I was so unhealthy; the company didn’t want to sell me their product. That really sucked. However, the website recommended I start with a “foundation” program to build my basic fitness level before attempting to do something as extreme ad P90X.
The programs that were recommended were Power 90 (P90) by Tony Horton; Turbo Jam by Chelene Johnson, Hip Hop Abs by Shaun Thompson, or Slim in 6 by Debbie Siebers as the basic programs to use to start my journey back to health and fitness. I had never heard of any of these programs but I am glad I didn’t waste my money starting with P90X. I don’t think I would have been able to complete that program as unhealthy as I was at the time. Since I really wanted to do P90X, I decided to give P90 a try because Tony Horton created both programs. Also, the foundation programs are about $60 instead of $120 for the advanced programs so I stood to lose less money if I didn’t like the program. As it turns out, all of Beachbody’s programs give you a 30 or 90 day money back guarantee and I have found they honor their commitment to the public with their guarantees. So the risk was reduced to nothing but my shipping costs if I decided to send it back. What did I have to lose? Nothing but a few pounds as it turned out.
So I ordered P90 and pushed play for the first time on 5 Jan 09, the day I received the program in the mail. The first workout was called Sweat 1 and 2. It was about 30 minutes long and in hind sight, was a very basic program. But by the time I finished the workout, I was laying on the floor in a puddle of sweat thinking I was going to die at any minute! LOL! Needless to say, I survived that first workout and the next day did a workout called Sculpt 1 and 2. It was hard too but I managed to get through that one also. I remember thinking about the cliché that “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger” and I was determined to make it through at least the first week, which was basically just repeating the Sweat routine then the Sculpt routine for 6 days and then you get to have a rest day on day 7. Then you just repeat the workouts every week until you feel you are able to keep up, then you move on to Sweat and Sculpt 3 and 4 which increased the time to about 35 or 40 minutes.
I committed myself to this workout program for the whole 90 days and ended up losing 18 pounds of body fat and increasing my lean muscle mass just using my body weight and a couple of dumbbells. I could have lost more weight, but I didn’t follow the nutrition guide, I just kept eating fast food and drinking Pepsi like I had over the years and still got good results. I was totally pleased with my results and felt better than I had since before my first heart attack ten years earlier. I figured if I lost 18 pounds in 12 weeks, I could lose 30 pounds in a year, so I set that as my personal goal for the year. I also decided to get a copy of the P90 Master Series tapes to keep challenging myself, which ultimately turned out to be a perfect transition program for me between P90 and P90X.
The master series workouts are about 40-50 minutes each and introduce new exercises to keep your body guessing and improving. By the time I finished that round, I had started cleaning up my diet and had lost a total of 28 pounds in only 24 weeks. I was also confident that I was ready for the extreme challenge of P90X, so I finally ordered it and made up my mind that I was going to do my very best for the 12 weeks and then I would know that the program either works, or is just a bunch of hype. I have to say, it is a very demanding fitness program. I was sore all over the first week and the workouts are about 60 minutes each except for Yoga X, which is 90 minutes long. Everyone of the workouts kicked my butt and I had to modify many of the exercises but the program shows you how to modify and still get results.
By the time I finished my first round of P90X in Oct of 2009, I had lost 41 pounds, come off both blood pressure medications, was low risk for type 2 diabetes, and lowered my cholesterol to an overall 82! My doctor couldn’t believe how well I had done in such a short period of time. Along the way, I also won $1,000 dollars in the Beachbody Million Dollar Body Game for my transformation story. You can check it out HERE. I hadn't even finished the round of P90X when I won. Overall, I have exceeded every goal I set for myself and have managed to keep the weight off for over 2 years now. I have tried a lot of the workout programs and each one of them work to improve your health and overall fitness level if you just follow the program as designed and do the nutrition plan. You will get great results, or your money back, it is as simple as that.
I believe Beachbody has the ultimate solution to the obesity epidemic in our country. They use a three-pronged approach that is proven by science to be the best way to regain your health and sustain it over time. Beachbody produces the best workout programs in the industry today, period. Each program has a specific nutrition guide designed for that program. These three things combined give you the best chance to achieve your goals and get into the best shape of your life.

For those of you who know me, I have been doing Beachbody workouts since Jan 2009 and have got great results and have been able to maintain my Beachbody lifestyle for over 2 years now. My lifestyle has changed so much since I started that I can hardly remember the way I was living before Team Beachbody. Prior to starting, I was 234 pounds and on two blood pressure medications and was pronounced pre-diabetic by my family physician. That was the wake-up call for me to take matters in my own hands. I had to change my lifestyle or accept the fact that I was going to die relatively young. I was on that downward spiral so many in our society are caught in today.
Seven days after my 40th birthday, I had a sudden heart attack. For me, it was one of those things that knocked me down and pretty much took all my upper body strength away from me in just a week in a hospital bed. Ultimately, I had angioplasty and a stent implanted in a artery over my heart. I spent 10 years going through all the drugs to regulate my heart rate, keep my blood pressure in check, and etcetera. The doctors wouldn’t let me do any kind of real physical exercise except for walking for about 20 or 30 minutes a day. Needless to say, this didn’t help my overall health and fitness and I continued to decline until I found myself where I was in Jan 2009.
The funny thing is that after being told for years not to do strenuous exercise due to my heart condition, my family doctor warned me that either I started exercising more and eating better, or I would be put on diabetes medication for the rest of my life. I guess that’s why they call the medical profession a “practice”. All of them have their own opinion. Since opinions vary by doctor, you have to take a certain amount of responsibility for your own health and fitness if you want to live a better quality of life. I took it on myself to do just that in January 2009.
I was tired of not having any energy, not sleeping well, always feeling tired and sickly. I wanted to feel like I did as a younger man with the energy and vitality that is related to youth. I didn’t want to stay on the downward spiral to an early grave I was clearly on. I HAD to make a change. So I took a chance with Beachbody and have literally changed my life for the better, physically, emotionally, and even financially as a Team Beachbody Coach.
Before becoming a coach, I never thought of making extra money in the “business”. I decided to become a coach to get the discounts on the products and supplements I knew I was going to buy in the future. Like Shakeology, for example, it was costing me about $120 per month buying it retail. I was buying a 30-day supply every month so I knew that if I became a coach, I would get it for $89 per month with free shipping as a home direct purchaser. That alone saved me about $30 per month on the product and another $15 per month on shipping costs. So it was really a “no brainer” for me to be a coach just for the fact that I was going to continue to drink Shakeology. As a coach, I get everything I buy at the wholesale discount. That is, I save 25% on all my purchases from Beachbody. Since I use many of the programs it has saved me literally hundreds of dollars since I have been a coach.
I don’t have to sell anything. I just tell people what I am doing and they decide if they want to be involved in helping our country and Beachbody reverse and end the trend of obesity in the US. If they get involved, Beachbody pays me a commission for my activities. That is how I make money, not by selling anything. Once I qualified as a Emerald Coach on the compensation plan, Beachbody started giving me paying customers every week! Now, anytime one of those customers, buy a product from the company, I get a commission up to 25% basically for nothing! I am not allowed to harass the customer so I don’t sell them anything. As their assigned coach, the only thing I do is answer their questions when they contact me. I also send them encouraging postcards to stick to their programs and work with them individually if they want my help. That’s it. That is all there is to Coaching as an Independent Team Beachbody Coach.
If you decide to build a team of Coaches, you can make a lot more money if you want to build a large business. In only 3 years, Beachbody has produced 10 millionaires who are part of an exclusive club in the organization. Those individuals have followed the “Game Plan” to build full time businesses and retire from their day jobs. So it is possible to build financial security by helping others achieve their goals. I don’t know a better way to achieve financial freedom by helping others live healthy and fulfilling lives. That is pretty cool to me. The more people you can help, the greater the reward to you and your team. Is there a better way? If so, I haven’t found it at this point. Zig Zigler said that you can have all the things you want in life if you help enough people get the things they want in life. It is the Law of Sowing and Reaping. You reap what you sow and Team Beachbody Coaches are sowing better lifestyles for anyone who wants it. The return is that the company compensates us to help others. The more people we help, the more we are compensated.
I recently read a statistic that stated obesity in the US will cost the taxpayer $4 Trillion dollars over the next 10 years if we don’t reverse the trend. If I am not part of the solution, then I am part of the problem with obesity in the US. I am on my personal lifetime journey toward better health and fitness. My life is so much better now that I have taken steps to live healthier. I want to share my experience with others and help them live a healthy lifestyle, thus improving their overall quality of life. If a company like Beachbody is willing to compensate me for that effort, I am fine with it and thankful to be part of the solution to end the trend of obesity in our country.

Embracing Change
I am sitting at my desk, 30 minutes before I am scheduled to start work. At 4 a.m. my alarm clock kicked off and by 430 a.m. I was pushing play and completing my Day 9 workout of P90X. Today was Plyometrics X. It is arguably the toughest workout in the program and is very taxing on my legs, knees and feet. It is, however, an awsome workout and I was able to burn 831 calories and maintain my heart rate between 141 and 169 beats per minute. Not bad for a 52 year old dude who's had two heart attacks and carries a stent in his chest from past poor lifestyle habits. Prior to the Beachbody lifestyle, my life was a perfect example of what NOT to do if you want to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
The biggest challenge I'm facing now is getting used to the 4 a.m. wakeup. For those of you who know me, I have been doing Beachbody workout programs since Jan 2009, lost 41 pounds and have kept it off for over 2 years now. Until this round, I have always done my workouts at 6 p.m. after getting home from a long day of work and a tough commute. For over 25 years, I have gotten out of bed on weekdays at 5 a.m. That one hour change has been more difficult than I expected but this morning, I was ready to go and felt pretty good about it.
I have never been a morning person but it feels good to get the workout out of the way first thing. It makes the rest of the day more relaxed and I know once I get home from work, I am finished for the day and can relax and enjoy time with my wonderful wife. Hopefully, I will adjust to the morning workout routines and will be OK with it. Right now, I feel pretty good even though I am a little tired from the program.
I know so many people who are doing Beachbody workouts. All of them are getting positive results based on their goals and the different objectives of the individual programs available. Some go on to get superior physiques in a short time. Others take longer due to the difference in age, body type, past health issues, metabolism, etc. The one consistent thing is that you can be healthier and more fit than you have ever been if you just get one of the many programs that will suit you and just start pushing play every day. It will literally change your life as it has mine and millions of other people in the US and around the globe.
There is no magic pill or gizmo that will suddenly make you fit and healthy. The truth is that if you want to lose weight and feel better, sleep better, have more energy, and just have a better lifestyle, you have to work for it. Beachbody programs are designed to work if you follow the program as it is laid out. There are programs for every level of fitness and age group from children to seniors, you can find a program that will work for you. These programs are time tested and proven to work, or Beachbody will give you your money back. I don't know any way to make it simpler for you. The mission of Beachbody is to help people live more healthy and fulfilling lives. The company also wants to end the trend of obesity in the US and is recruiting 1 million coaches to make this happen.
We all know the federal government cannot legislate good health. "We the People" are going to have to do it ourselved. It will require a pretty significant paradyme shift in the mentality of the citizens if it will be successful. The cards are stacked against us with big food, health, and pharmarcy conglamorates veying for every dollar they can extract from you by promoting unhealthy food, need for medications, and new drugs being created by the hour to keep the money machine flowing to their pockets.
It is up to YOU to change your lifestyle. As a Team Beachbody Coach, I can help you. I do it for free because I believe in the mission and goal of the company. I know that together, we can change our nation and get our health back. Wanna help? We can use you. I'm only Human!
Greetings to you,
My last post was on 2 May 2011. Wow! I was just starting my 4th full round of P90X and was excited to see the results the program continues to bring.
Unfortunately, we are all human and sometimes we let life get in the way of our goals. This has happended to me and I am now reaping what I have sown for the past 6 weeks or so. No matter how good your plans are, you can get sidetracked if you aren't diligent in keeping your priorities in place. This is what has happended to me.
There are several events over the past several weeks that added to my busy and often stressful life that I believe threw me over the proverbial edge and quickly on a downward spiral away from my health and fintess pursuits.
First, my wife and I went on vacation to Freeport, Bahamas to do some scuba diving. It was a great week and I managed to get in about 14 dives for the week. My wife also took her Open Water Certification course while we were there and is now a certified diver. I am very proud of her for taking the step. Now that she is certified, we can dive pretty much anywhere in the world. The final dive we did together was at a place called "Shark Alley" and we had the pleasure of diving with at least 9 sharkes I could count as we entered the water. That was very exciting and my wife handled it very well.
Over the course of the week, I managed to eat like a pig and gained a total of 4 pounds even though I was diving ever day. This is what happens when you eat everything in sight. Four pounds is really not that much when you have the knowledge and tools to lose it quickly. Once we came home, I did the Shakeology 3-day cleanse and lost about 5 pounds so I was right back on track.
The week we got back, I got some very disturbing news, which I won't go into but suffice it to say it was such that I had to drop everything in my life to work through it immediately. This resulted in me not working out and my food intake started to slip to fast food and sodas to keep me going. Within 1 month I gained the 4 pounds back and an additional 10 pounds!! My weight is currently 207.4 pounds and I am not very happy about it. Fortunately, I got through the family emergency and it is time to refocus my attention on my personal health and fitness. After all, how can I expect to help others reach their potential when I am struggling with my issues?
This leads me to a new opportunity. I have been living a healthy lifestyle and maintaining my weight and fitness level using Beachbody workout programs like P90X, TurboFire, and other random workouts thrown in to keep things mixed up. The great thing is I know these programs work and I can get right back on track as soon as I am ready.
I have decided to start my Round 4 over again this coming Monday. I plan to lose at least 20 pounds this round and will follow a more strick diet this time in an effort to reduce my body fat and increase lean muscle over the course of the next 90 days. Diet is about 80% of the program if you really want to get lean and have a 6-pack. The programs work to make you healthy and functionally fit, but you have to eat really clean to lose the body fat. I have only got down to about 12% body fat and my abs had just started showing through. I was not that concerned about being really lean in the past because I had reached and exceeded all my health and fitness goals and have been able to maintain that lifestyle for nearly two years until recently.
Another change I plan to make this round is to do my workouts in the morning around 430 am to 530 am instead of 6 pm. This should be interesting because I am not a morning person and it will take a little time to get used to the new schedule but I believe it will be beneficial to change it up and "shock" my body. I need to get on that schedule and have been trying to go to bed earlier but it is proving difficult so far. The bottom line is that I have to be disciplined if I want the results I am after. Nothing worth having has ever been easy in my experience, so I am looking at this like entering military basic training all over again.
I will be posting my measurements, weight and some photos this Sunday as I start (or continue) my journey to better health and fitness. Check back and click to follow this blog if you want to watch my progress. It should be fun and interesting. Until next time.
